kiri aluwa

Saturday, April 3, 2010

i guess i'm going to do away with the complaints for this post because i had a nice day (or i did 'yesterday' i SUPPOSE).
skipped a show, also skipped Julian Casablancas cos i can be a tool like that (i've skipped Os Mutantes in the past, when i already had a ticket, because large crowds get me nervous sometimes).
anyway, thought i'd stay in and have a beer and get some shut-eye but instead i rolled about reading blogs and looked up a "kiri aluwa" (milk toffee) recipe and got to't. luckily came back from the supermarket to see Harry'd returned so hooray for a helping hand!
so this recipe had butter in it which i wish we did without because the texture was that of a regular toffee which is fine (and what the recipe was going for i guess), but it grossed me out. i have a low tolerance for oily feelz (gross, wish i could be more articulate about that). fortunately, nothing grosses Harry out so nothing's going to waste. the texture i've always grown up with is more..matte and crumbly. so next time - skip butter.
also, we made a last minute coconut decision. i bought some shredded coconut recently to make some "wellawahum", (more commonly referred to as pancakes in Sri Lanka), so we threw some in which is a great idea and a great substitute for cashew nuts. especially seeing as i never liked cashews in them but enjoyed the crunchiness, coconut was perfect.
no pictures of the finished product, cos it doesn't look that great, to be honest. but this does (cooo) :

and in the true burgess&w. way, we followed dessert with the main meal, which was a wrap of potaties, red peppers, spinach, cheese and tomato sauce with some mozarella. this was one handsome wrap, ya allah. if only my camera was kinder.

ughh, want again.

i was going to post up some Calvin Johnson but i forget how much his voice makes me want to tweeze every hair off my head when i've been awake for a long period of time. so i'm going to settle for Heavenly : Le Jardin De Heavenly (1992) which is just as good and features him on C is the Heavenly Option, where he is somehow more bearable.

so dreamy.

okay i will crash now because I HAVE NOT SLEPT SINCE YESTERDAY BLAH BLAH LA LA LA (just one little complaint for meee).
